32 Year Old Hyderabadi Arrested While Trying To Join ISIS
A US-returned Hyderabadi on his way to Turkey to join Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was arrested by Cyberabad police at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here at Shamshabad when he came there to board a flight on Friday.
Several electronic gadgets were recovered from 32-year-old Salman Mohiuddin hailing from Bazarghat near Habeebnagar. An engineering graduate, he had worked in US for sometime. While residing in US, he got acquainted with a woman Nicky Joseph alias Ayesha, a British national, reportedly having leaning towards fundamentalist ideology of Islam, the police said.
After the ISIS was formed last year, Salman and Nicky began closely observing developments and activities related to it. They started showing interest issues taken up by the ISIS and created facebook groups with pseudo names.
βWith individuals having similar thoughts and inclinations responding, the couple started attracting such people vowing to work for ISIS,β the Cyberabad police said. In October last week, he was denied visa by US authorities and returned to India.
However, Mohiuddin allegedly continued to attract people towards ISIS by posting content on social networking sites. While different individuals responded from various countries, Mohiuddin tried to gather support from Indian youths and planned to take them to Syria and Iraq.
Further, he planned to undergo militant training in Syria and return to India to carry out anti-national activities, the police charged. A case under Information Technology Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act was registered against him.
