Allari Naresh hasn’t had a hit in a long, long time. He has tried various combinations to grab a hit and this time, he uses sister sentiment in the form of Karthika as his trump card for Brother of Bommali. Does the film live up to the hype and will it give the much needed hit for Allari Naresh?

Story :
The story starts off at a time when NTR was the CM. On a rainy night, twins are born in a government hospital. The elder one is a boy called Ramakrishna (Allari Naresh) and the younger one is a girl called Lakshmi or Lucky (Karthika). Right at the beginning, we are told that while the boy is easy-going, the girl is a tom boy who is a go-getter. Well, the children grow up and Ramky becomes an interior designer and as expected Lakshmi becomes a terror for men. Ramky falls for Shruti (Monal Gajjar), another interior designer who works for his rival firm. In a strange turn of events, Shruti ends up working in Ramky’s firm and after a series of incidents, she falls in love with him. However, his father insists that he can only get married after he gets his sister married. And that’s when the big twist comes. Lucky reveals that she is in love with Harsha (Harshvardhan Rane) and insists she will only marry him. From then on, the entire cast does everything and anything to get Lucky married to Harsha.
Technical Aspects :
Brother of Bommali is a comic caper. The script is entertaining (in parts) in the first half but in the second half, it too much dragging. B Chinni Krishna had many interesting sequences, but failed in the execution. The climax is also not appealing. The director did a decent job linking fraternal twins. The narration of the film is rinky-dink, and director always tries to capture your attention with regular Tollywood scenes. Director literally uses a film in every frame, Devudu Chesina Manushulu, Arya 2, Manmadhudu, Golmaal, Nuvu Naaku Nachav, Kandhireega, Jayeebhava..etc to mention a few.
Cinematographer had decent scope to catch the beautiful locations, but cinematographer Vijaykumar fails to capture the eye catching locations. Music by Sekhar Chandra fails to impress, but BGM works in the favour of the film. Except for the introduction song, every song slackens the pace of the film. Editing of the film by Gautham Raju and he could have easily cut short the film by 15-20 minutes. Dialogues work in parts. Fights composed by Ram Lakshman suit the leads. Art work is fine and production values of Siri Cinema are good.
Artistes’ Performances:
Allari Naresh as Ramky starts off on a good note. In fact, you cannot really rate his performance as bad when compared to his characterization. The plot goes haywire as the story goes forward and that puts a toll on all actors including Naresh. Though the film is labeled a comedy, he does not have very many comic scenes which have the audience in splits.
Karthika has been promoted as the highlight of the film. Poor girl gets a raw deal once again. One is not sure if she blindly followed the director or that was the way she conceived her character in her mind, but she has totally gone off track in the way she has portrayed Lucky. Like Naresh, she too starts off on a decent note. But as the story progresses, her character gets on to your nerves and her acting reminiscent of some long-forgotten Tamil actresses is too loud for the taste of Telugu audiences. If she intends to continue in films, she will have to choose her scripts more carefully in future and tone down her expressions.
Monal Gajjar is like all Allari Naresh’s heroines who hardly make their presence felt. Unfortunately, she lacks the looks and acting skills to have repeat value.
Brahmanandam has another important role in the film as the cook called Kona Venkat. While the name sounds promising and you hope to see some well-conceived parody, it is relegated to yet another boring character which looks totally lost. While there is no doubt about Brahmanandam’s talent, he is spreading himself too thin and this may affect his popularity at some time.
Kelly Dorjee as the villain is totally wasted and you are left wondering as to what made him say yes to the role in the first place.
The rest of the cast includes a lot of people seen in almost all B grade films these days and they continue with their routine. Vennela Kishore, Srinivasa Reddy, Madhu, Ali, Jayaprakash Reddy are their usual selves. Harshvardhan Rane, who has become the most preferred stand-by character, should seriously take some acting classes. He looks totally lost and out of place throughout the film.
Plus Points :
- Allari Naresh
- Karthika
- Few comedy scenes
- BGM
Minus Points :
- Screenplay
- Direction
- Predictable Narration
- Songs Situations
- Runtime
Final Words :
Brother of Bommali is probably one of those movies which has a great start and then failed to take advantage on the raised entertainment expectations. Its falls so much short on the raised expectations that you leave the movie with a disappointment that takes a sometime to wear off. All in All, BOB is watch able only if you are a person who doesn’t worry about story, screenplay and sense in narration.
