The special festival of Sankranthi is not far away and there seems to be a special bond between the Telugu Film Industry called Tollywood and the Grand festival of Sankranthi. One of the reasons why the film industry is attracted so much to this season is that the festival of Sankranthi is considered as the luckiest season of the year. No wonder nearly every hero loves to have a movie release during this period.
Tollywood: The Beginning
During the start of the Telugu Cinema come to be known as Tollywood, the first ever heroes of the film industry were NTR and ANR who pulled up the commercial position of the Telugu Cinema reportedly, followed by the trio Krishna, Shoban Babu and Krishnam Raju, after which the yesteryear legends like Megastar Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Nandamuri Balakrishna and Venkatesh continue to dominate the south Indian Film Industry till present day close to a third decade. Megastar Chiranjeevi did take a long break for about 9 years and returned to doing movies as well as the other three Telugu heroes who continue with their respective movies.
Tollywood: The Conclusion
It is a well-known fact that the megastar’s 150th film which is called ‘Khaidi No.150’ is near the corner. While Nags is busy with movie ‘Om Namo Venkateshaya’, Actor Venkatesh is busy with the film ‘Guru’ and Nandamuri Balakrishna is into his ‘Gauthamiputra Satakarni’. ‘Gauthamiputra Satakarni’ was recently in the grapevine that the movie makers were planning to rope in the ‘God’ of Bollywood, Big ‘B’ to feature in the movie alongside Balakrishna. While the Megastar’s and Balakrishna’s Sankranthi Clash will sound big news, chances are that Nag’s, as well as Venky’s, will join the Sankranthi Race as well. With all of the grand Telugu heroes of the 1990s bringing together their movies this special season of Sankranthi, surely the Tollywood audiences and enthusiasts will get a Sankranthi treat.
