Sridevi demands an apology from Ram Gopal Varma

Actress Sridevi has slapped a legal notice (a copy of which is with Hyderabad Times) on filmmaker RGV alleging that he is using her name to promote his upcoming film Sridevi. The film’s first look has already aroused a lot of controversy and earlier this month, the State Commission of Protection of Child Rights had filed a suo moto case on RGV for violating child rights. And now, Sridevi has followed suit alleging that RGV’s film infringes upon her “personality rights, intellectual property rights and constitutional rights”.

Trouble began when RGV changed the film’s title from Savitri to Sridevi, a move which clearly hasn’t gone down well with the actress. The legal notice also points that RGV had expressed his fascination, love and obsession for Sridevi on several occasions and since he’s using her name as the film’s title, the audience might relate it to the actress. Apparently, what irked Sridevi and Boney Kapoor even more was that RGV didn’t even give a proper explanation when they tried to contact him about the change in the title.

Since the actress hasn’t given her consent to use her name as a film’s title, the lawyers,who have sent the legal notice to RGV on behalf of Sridevi, have also stated that it is gross violation of her privacy and would subject her to needless embarrassment as she does not have any control over the content of any unauthorised or unapproved film.

We hear that Sridevi has given RGV three days to comply to all her conditions which include an unconditional apology, change in film’s title and refraining from using her images, likeness, persona and other attributes failing which she’ll be forced to initiate legal proceedings. Meanwhile, RGV remained unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
